This is an initiative to evoke change onto the environmental impact of urban development through an interactive thought- provoking outdoor exhibition.

The artefact stems from an umbrella idea: a campaign proposal to NParks. The first component is the floor plan to propose where the installation will be at.

This campaign aims to raise awareness and prompt us to recognize the urgency of reconciling urbanisation with nature conservation, securing a sustainable future where the two can coexist harmoniously.

At the same time, encourage people to visit the park through our exhibition to appreciate nature’s serenity and tranquil essence of these natural havens.

Outdoor Installation

We draw people in by having an outdoor exhibit installation, in this day and age many people love the connection with media and taking pictures, we use this aspect to attract people to come and take pictures by having a dystopian installation. Retaining the internal walls of a shell so that the surrounding noise will be amplified in the space, using the distort from scans to create this shelter installation.

*Possibly made out of nature’s materials. See Material Ecology by Neri Oxman. This installation has a dual function as well, having the park existing infrastructure in mind, this was designed so it can act as a shelter like how some parks have resting shelters.

Interactive Code Component

Branching out from Outdoor Installation, the sound reactive code visual is the backbone of the main outdoor exhibition, the scene is abstracted from the commonality of the scans and distorted further by the scanned organic forms of nature to represent nature’s cries artistically, to show how nature is acting back.

Using Blender to p5js to animate the distortions and make it reactive to real-time surrounding sound data. Coordinates used are from the data to amplify the movement, distortion. The sound reactive does not work on the site so experience the code here.

Augmented Reality Simulation Component

The sounds varying from nature, people to construction noises from the 4 different parks are compiled into a 1-minute audio to represent the urbanization in the park and used as an example of the real-time sound data.

This augmented reality simulation modelled from the interactive coded visuals are a prompt to evoke emotions of discomfort and being overwhelmed by nature to provoke thoughts of how we are othering nature and indirectly reminding of the environmental damage we have caused.

Marketing collaterals as part of the campaign.

The othering and harm of nature due to the greed of economic growth will only lead to a nearer end of our time so consider this proposal.
